In the episode titled, "Finale," TVLine.com is suggesting that Carrell may return to make an appearance. It only seems right for "The Office" fans who have watched the NBC sitcom for nine seasons, to see Dunder Mifflin's original Scranton branch manager in the finale. However, Carrell shot down the idea not to long ago.
While promoting a new film at Sundance, Carrell explained what is believed to be his decision to not return to "The Office." "I just didn't think it was right for the character, because that character had had an arch within the story and kind of grew and sort of evolved past the idea of the documentary," Carrell told Access Hollywood. Carrell went on to explain that it doesn't make sense for his character to return. "I'm really good friends with everybody on the cast and with [executive producer] Greg Daniels and I want to go back to say, 'Hi,' certainly, before it all ends, but I just thought, in terms of the character, it didn't make sense," Carrell said.
That certainly sounds like Carrell is intent on not making a return, but could he just be playing it up for a big surprise ending? According to TV Line's report, Carrell may have initially been against the idea, even when he talked with Access Hollywood, but producers may have changed his mind recently. Insiders are telling TV Line that show producers put forth a last ditch effort to convince Carrell to make an appearance on the series finale. It's also interesting to note that in TV Line's report, Carrell's rep told them that Carrell was on set for the final episode, but did not tape any scenes. Hmmm, are you buying that?
