"The Voice" began its knockout round Monday night as Team Adam and Team Shakira whittled down their rosters to four members apiece. Six of the remaining eight contestants on Levine's and Shakira's teams are female.

In the knockout round, each coach picks two of his or her team members to sing against each another. The performers must choose their own songs and no steals or saves can be used as in previous rounds. Half of the eight contestants on each team are eliminated and the remaining four advance to the live playoff round.
The pairings in Monday's episode provided some predictable results for much of the evening. Shakira made Garrett Gardner, whom she has praised repeatedly this season, take on Tawnya Reynolds and Garrett won handily. Team Adam representatives Judith Hill and Orlando Dixon squared off and, as expected, Judith advanced. Sarah Simmons also blew away Warren Stone in another matchup of Team Adam members.
Amber Carrington knocked out duo Midas Whale with her country-tinged rendition of Avril Lavigne's "I'm With You" and dedicated it to her mother, who passed away from breast cancer.
Adam also picked Caroline Glaser, a former member of Blake Shelton's team, to round out his roster of four (Caroine, Judith, Sarah, Amber). Shakira selected Kris Thomas, Karina Iglesias and Sasha Allen to join Garrett. Ironically, Karina and Sasha, both women, were previously members of Team Adam.
The knockout round continues Tuesday night as Blake and Usher pick their four team members.
