Several reports confirm that Cara Alexander, a 27-year-old English high school teacher from Virginia, was arrested last Friday (April 26) for allegedly indulging in a yearlong sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student. According to local ABC Newport News affiliate WVEC, the underage boy's parents found nude photos of Alexander on their son's phone - it turns out the duo had been "sexting" for quite some time. Such allegations prompted an investigation, and the unidentified student told authorities that he'd had sex with Alexander over 20 times since last summer. Alexander was ultimately charged with several offenses, including contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

After his parents found the racy pics last Tuesday (April 23), the 17-year-old boy admitted that he was in a sexual relationship with the popular ninth grade teacher at Woodside High school. Court documents obtained by CBS affiliate WTKR state that Alexander first initiated contact with the student last year by giving him her cell phone number. They then embarked on an inappropriate sexual relationship that lasted over a year. According to the Virginian-Pilot, Alexander used to teach the student, but the young man has since transferred to another school.
Apparently the two never practiced such inappropriate activity on school grounds.
Newport News Public Schools spokeswoman Michelle Morgan-Price told reporters that Alexander had been teaching at the high school since 2010 - before that, she worked as a substitute.
Alexander was arrested and jailed over the weekend with no bond set. According to Morgan-Price, she will be fired from her position and a recommendation will be made so that her state teaching license may be revoked.
Several students and parents were shocked by Alexander's inapppropriate behavior - many described her as "calm" and "friendly."
Anthony Bailey, the parent of a Woodside male student (not the victim) told reporters, "[Alexander was ]a very nice teacher... [my son] had a good time in her class... It is very disappointing
Newport News police said Alexander faces 13 felony charges: six counts of using a communications system to facilitate offenses involving children, six counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and one count of taking indecent liberties with a minor.
