Reports confirm that popular WABC meteorologist Bill Evans and his wife Dana Evans were both recently arrested after being accused of domestic violence at their Greenwich home back in May. The NYC weatherman and his estranged wife now face charges of third-degree assault and disorderly conduct. The couple are currently involved in a nasty divorce after 19 years of marriage.
Senior meteorologist at New York City's WABC-TV Bill Evans (52) surrendered to police on Thursday (June 13). Dana (48) admitted her involvement in the domestic fight to authorities on Friday (June 14). Both individuals were released on a promise to soon appear in Connecticut state court. The violent brawl took place on May 3.
In a recently released statement, the weatherman's lawyer Philip Russell said, "Bill and Dana are presently going through a difficult divorce... Our understanding is that on May 20, more than two weeks after an argument, Dana was advised by her divorce attorneys to file the complaint, which led to the police investigation... Bill cooperated fully with the investigation and is continuing to cooperate with the police."
Both individuals are scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, June 18.
"After seeking counseling at a local domestic violence center, Dana reported the incident to the Greenwich police," Dana's lawyer Mark Sherman said in a prepared statement. "Obviously, divorces can get emotional, and we expect Dana to be cleared of these charges in due time. The safety, privacy and welfare of her family continue to be her primary concern... Connecticut law requires that the police refer all reports of domestic arguments, no matter how minor, to the Superior Court, and the Greenwich police actions ... were required by law."
Russell also stated, "We expect that Bill will be exonerated and this case will be quickly forgotten. The Greenwich police have informed us their investigation is continuing and we will see this process through until Bill's name is cleared."
Bill Evans has worked at WABC since 1989. Reps for the popular NYC news station had no comment.
