The Royal Rumble match often features the return of former or current WWE Superstars, and the 2014 pay-per-view will be no different.
The Wrestling Observer reports that John Cena and Sheamus, both of whom are injured at the moment, will return during the 2014 Royal Rumble match. The backstage plan is for the former champions to serve as the surprise entrants for next year's event.

Unfortunately, their returns would most likely preclude any Legends or former wrestlers from appearing in the match, as the Royal Rumble typically features only a small number of surprise returns. Last year, for example, Chris Jericho returned after an extended absence, and Goldust appeared to battle with his brother, Cody Rhodes.
Jake "The Snake" Roberts is currently working with Diamond Dallas Page to get healthy and in shape for a return and he has said publicly for months that he wants to return at the 2014 Royal Rumble. Cena's and Sheamus' returns most likely make that impossible.
Of course, as with all WWE plans and news, the scenario could change multiple time before January.
Cena famously returned at the 2008 Royal Rumble as the final entrant even though he was supposed to be out with an injury until later that year.
Backstage Heat on Dolph Ziggler?
The Wrestling Observer also reports that Dolph Ziggler is currently in trouble backstage and the company is punishing him for something he said during an interview during the week of SummerSlam. It's unclear at this point what Ziggler said or even what is the interview in question.
Mark Henry Injury Update
Finally, The Wrestling Observer again reports that Mark Henry has been cleared to return to action following his hamstring injury at a WWE live event last weekend. Henry underwent an MRI and doctors later cleared him to wrestle again.
