Apple's iOS 6 mobile operating system is now available for download, just in time for the release of the highly-anticipated iPhone 5 (which hits Apple stores Friday, Sept. 21). Here is a list of some updated features and need-to-know facts about Apple's iOs 6 before Apple users go ahead and download the system.

iOS 6 requires the updated iTunes 10.7, so be sure to download that first.

Apple is still in an ongoing battle with Google, so therefore don't expect the preloaded YouTube and Google Maps Apps.

Siri, Apple's intelligent personal assistant software and knowledge navigator, has also undergone a massive upgrade. Expect some stellar and advanced features.

One-touch download for free apps in the App Store.

Facebook will be integrated with iOS 6.

Mail VIPs - certain contacts can be marked as "important," therefore all their messages will pop up with a special star asterisk.

An updated photo stream feature allows images to be easily transferred between Apple users.

FaceTime can now be used over a cellular network (such as 3G), not just through wifi.

Safari can be integrated across all  iCloud-connected devices thanks to new iCloud Tabs - users can go from device to device so that the same internet browsing tabs remain open on each one.

Because Google Maps won't be instantly available anymore, Apple will offer its own version of in-house (possibly 3-D) maps. (FYI, as of now this is the one feature many Apple users aren't too impressed with, the Apple Maps is apparently a downgrade from the Google Maps app).

A "Guided Access" feature will allow users to lock an app-in-use as to not be disturbed by other controls.

And finally, the highly-anticipated Passbook. The Passbook is an app that could potentially act as a digital wallet - putting all digital coupons, tickets, and loyalty cards together in one place.

Heads up - make sure your Apple device is charged and that all your data is backed up before you begin the iOS 6 download. Now go have some fun with the new Apple operating system! Check out the Apple site for more info!
